The US military carried out a new wave of strikes against Iran lasting 5 hours, targeting military facilities. Iran announced it had launched retaliatory attacks on US targets in Bahrain and Jordan.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes were carried out with precision-guided munitions and targeted Iran's coastal defense systems, missile and drone facilities, and naval capabilities.
The statement noted that targets in the areas of Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas were struck, and that the operation's goal was 'to further degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial maritime traffic.'
CENTCOM also reported that more than 50,000 US troops are deployed across the Middle East and that forces are on high alert.
Iran Retaliates Against Bahrain and Jordan
Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced the destruction of a drone control center belonging to the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain, along with fuel tanks, a Patriot radar, air control radar, early warning radar system, weapons depots, a communications center, and military housing.
As sirens sounded in Bahrain, the Interior Ministry urged citizens and residents to head to the nearest safe area.
The Revolutionary Guards also stated that a US airbase in Jordan was targeted with ballistic missiles. The Jordanian army confirmed it had shot down four missiles fired from Iran that entered its airspace.
Two Tankers Hit in Strait of Hormuz
The UAE Ministry of Defense reported that two national tankers, the 'Mombasa' and 'Al-Bahiya,' were hit by Iranian cruise missiles in Omani territorial waters at the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz. One Indian sailor was killed in the attack, and eight people were injured, including six Indians and two Ukrainians.
The UAE Foreign Ministry described the attack as 'a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which rejects targeting commercial vessels.'
Iran's Revolutionary Guards, in a statement to the Fars news agency, claimed that the two supertankers ignored warnings and attempted to pass through a 'mined route.' The statement warned that cooperation with the US, described as the 'aggressive enemy,' would lead to a global energy crisis.
These developments have led to the most serious test since the memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran on June 17 came into effect.
