According to the Washington Post, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are facing a critical shortage of missiles for their Patriot air defense systems.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Western countries of failing to supply missiles despite having them in stockpiles. Zelenskyy said that the US and European countries know the ammunition Ukraine needs, but that a "political decision" is required for shipments.
Russia, for its part, argues that supplying weapons to Ukraine prevents a resolution to the conflict, draws NATO countries directly into the conflict, and amounts to "playing with fire." Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that any cargo carrying weapons to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. The Kremlin also said that the West's arming of Ukraine would not contribute to negotiations and would have a negative impact.
