At the heart of Ziraat Bankası's approach is an 'intensity-based targeting' model that embodies the principle of simultaneously pursuing economic growth and decarbonization. Without sectoral discrimination, the bank is leading its customers' transformation by financing technology modernization and renewable energy investments in high-emission areas.
These targets were developed with reference to IEA 2050 Net Zero scenarios for the electricity, iron and steel, and cement sectors, and SBTi FLAG 1.5°C-aligned pathways for the agriculture sector. The roadmap was also prepared in alignment with international reporting and financial frameworks such as IFRS, ITPN, and PCAF.
Strong Financing for Clean Energy Transition: Ziraat Bankası, which continues to increase the share of renewable energy investments in its electricity generation portfolio, positions wind, solar, and hybrid power plants, as well as energy storage systems and grid modernization investments, among its priority financing areas.
Support for Low-Carbon Industry: In the iron and steel sector, modernization investments that will accelerate the transition to low-carbon production technologies and projects for renewable energy use are among the priority transformation areas supported by the Bank.
In the cement sector, investments in alternative raw materials and fuel use, waste heat recovery, energy efficiency applications, and, in the long term, carbon capture technologies are being supported.
Climate-Friendly Agriculture Ecosystem: As the strongest financial supporter of Turkish agriculture, Ziraat Bankası aims to contribute to the spread of sustainable production through financing precision agriculture practices, modern irrigation systems, renewable energy use in agricultural enterprises, and new-generation agricultural machinery.
Ziraat Bankası Project Finance and Corporate Analysis Group Head Berrin Mahmutoğlu said in her assessment of the Climate Transition Roadmap: 'We see climate transformation not only as an environmental responsibility but as an integral part of Türkiye's sustainable development journey.
With this understanding, in addition to our own operations where we have implemented the largest solar power plant investment in the Turkish financial sector and our zero waste practices, we aim to create the main impact by supporting the transformation of the real sector.
We will resolutely continue to support our customers' adaptation to the low-carbon economy by leveraging the power of green and transition finance, and to contribute to sustainable development on the path to Türkiye's 2053 Net Zero Emissions target.'
