Teams from the Kilis Municipality Municipal Police Department found hundreds of products with expiration dates years past during an inspection at a market. The inspection determined that products with a 2016 expiration date were on the shelves; insects and maggots were seen in some products.
Acting upon the products being offered for sale, the teams imposed an administrative fine on the business under the Misdemeanor Law. The hundreds of seized products were destroyed after necessary procedures.
Municipal police officer: 'Business owner puts old products back on shelves'
A municipal police officer who spoke during the inspection stated that the business in question is regularly inspected. 'Our citizens sometimes ask, "If there are so many expired products, why aren't inspections carried out?" But as our records show, we inspect this business frequently. It is believed that the business owner puts old products back on the shelves later,' the officer said.
Officials stressed that no tolerance will be shown for the sale of products threatening public health, and that inspections will continue uninterrupted with necessary punitive measures taken.
