Justice Minister Akın Gürlek to Sabah: assets seized in the investment fund probe will go to victims

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek to Sabah: assets seized in the investment fund probe will go to victims

Speaking to Sabah on October 1, Türkiye's Justice Minister Akın Gürlek described the latest stage of the investment fund investigations, saying seized assets will be transferred to victims through a pool under the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), small investors will be paid first, and manipulative trading has been detected in 41 stocks.

Seized assets: “To be used to meet the claims of rights holders”

What will happen to the villas, vehicles and bank accounts seized in the fund investigations?

The value of the villas, luxury vehicles, plots of land and bank accounts seized in the investigations will be used, through the fund established under the TMSF, to meet the claims of rights holders.

All economic assets seized in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office will provide resources for the system set up for victims. Once the legal processes are complete, these resources will be used directly to compensate the losses.

Who will be given priority in payments from the pool?

We will give priority to account holders with 1 million liras or less in their fund accounts. This figure is not a payment cap; it is the main priority criterion that determines the order of payments among victims. In this way we aim to quickly compensate small investors first.

The stock market side: 41 stocks under scrutiny

What has been found on the stock market side of the investigation?

We have detected manipulative transactions worth billions of liras in 41 stocks on Borsa Istanbul. We examined the unusual movements in these stocks with AI-supported analysis systems and scanned millions of transactions. As a result, travel bans were imposed on those found to have profited from the manipulation.

Those who try to make unjust gains from our citizens' savings by manipulating the markets should know that the trail of unjust gains will be followed to the end.

Is returning the gains obtained by suspects on the agenda?

We are working on suspects who will be called to testify depositing into an account under the TMSF an amount equal to twice the gains they obtained from manipulative transactions. These payments will be decisive in the suspects' legal situation, and the resources obtained will again be transferred to the victims.

“Those responsible will be held accountable before the law”

What is the latest picture in the investigation?

In the fifth wave of operations carried out as part of the investigation, detention orders were issued for 34 suspects. The total number of suspects has reached 217; 56 people have been arrested and 88 placed under judicial control.

In line with the strong will set out by our President, we will continue to resolutely do our part to protect the rights of our investor citizens, reinforce confidence in our capital markets and ensure that those responsible are held accountable before the law.
