A new campaign has been launched to draw attention to the impact of increased air conditioner use on electricity consumption during the summer months. The “#24DereceİleMümkün” campaign, initiated under the leadership of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and coordinated by the Electricity Distribution Services Association (Elder), aims to promote efficient usage habits.
Within the scope of the campaign, citizens are encouraged to use their air conditioners more efficiently without sacrificing comfort, save on their electricity bills, and contribute to a more balanced management of the rising electricity demand during the summer period.
Main message: ‘Ideal comfort at 24 degrees’
The campaign’s main message is built on the approach that “ideal comfort, lower bills, and reduced carbon emissions are possible at 24 degrees.” Consumers will be informed about setting the correct air conditioner temperature, not neglecting regular device maintenance, and keeping doors and windows closed. Additionally, simple measures to reduce sunlight entering living spaces during the hottest hours of the day and the importance of choosing high-efficiency devices will be among the campaign’s highlighted topics.
The campaign messages will include simple, understandable, and applicable suggestions. Visual communication will highlight the messages of “ideal comfort,” “lower bills,” “less carbon,” “use your energy efficiently in every area,” and “the path to savings lies in correct air conditioner use.”
Attention drawn to the increasing load in summer months
With rising temperatures, changing comfort expectations, and the widespread adoption of air conditioners in recent years, the cooling-related load on electricity consumption during the summer months has become more visible. According to sector data, the split air conditioner market in Türkiye reached 2.5 million units in domestic sales in 2024. This proliferation leads to a noticeable increase in electricity demand, further heightening the importance of grid operation in the electricity distribution infrastructure during the summer period.
The campaign will also leverage the field experience of electricity distribution companies and their communication channels that are in direct contact with consumers. Consumers will be reached via SMS, social media, and digital channels; efficiency suggestions will be conveyed through call centers, websites, and consumer contact points.
‘A small but effective usage habit’
Elder Secretary General Fakir Hüseyin Erdoğan stated that electricity distribution companies assume responsibility not only for delivering energy to consumers without interruption but also for spreading a culture of conscious consumption.
Erdoğan said, “The fundamental issue here is the correct and efficient use of air conditioners. Very low temperature settings both raise bills and increase the load on the grid. However, 24 degrees offers a strong balance point between comfort and savings. For this reason, we are inviting our citizens to adopt a small but effective usage habit by saying ‘#24DereceİleMümkün.’”
Noting that a conscious choice in air conditioner temperature settings will contribute not only to the household budget but also to the country’s energy efficiency goals, Erdoğan emphasized that energy efficiency is not just a subject for industry or large businesses, and that significant differences can be made with simple measures taken at home, at work, and in every area of life.
