In the last 24 hours, 60 forest and agricultural land fires broke out in Greece. The Greek Fire Service announced that 15 of the fires started in the Central Macedonia region.
The fire that started in Oraiokastro around 8:30 p.m. is being tackled by 40 firefighters, 20 vehicles and a firefighting plane. Water tankers and earth-moving equipment belonging to the Central Macedonia Regional Administration are also supporting the efforts.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection sent instructions via the 112 emergency alert system to residents of the Anthupoli settlement in Oraiokastro to leave the area.
Teams from the Arson Crimes Unit have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Most of the fires that broke out during the day were brought under control before they grew, thanks to rapid intervention.
