Preparations are continuing ahead of the groundbreaking for the tram line that will connect Adapazarı and Serdivan. Uraloğlu announced that Sakarya’s urban rail system network is being expanded through new projects.
The Adapazarı-Serdivan Tram Line is planned to be 15.2 kilometers long and will serve 19 stations. The trams’ design speed has been set at 70 kilometers per hour.
The line will connect the campus area to Serdivan
The line will begin at July 15 Democracy Square (Gar Square). The route will pass through the campus area, home to Sakarya University and Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, before reaching Serdivan.
The project will also provide access to the Serdivan Sports Hall and stadium area. Uraloğlu said the line would meet transportation demand between Adapazarı and Serdivan through a rail system.
Uraloğlu said the project would increase Sakarya’s urban transportation capacity and reduce traffic and passenger congestion on public transportation, particularly during peak hours. The project is expected to minimize time lost during journeys and contribute to reducing the use of private vehicles.
Tender held on April 28
The Adapazarı-Serdivan Tram Line, designed by Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, was taken over by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure through a Presidential Decision. The Ministry completed the project’s feasibility studies.
The tender for the “Adapazarı-Serdivan Tram Line Construction and Electromechanical Systems Supply, Installation and Commissioning Works” was held on April 28. The contract was signed on August 25, and the site was handed over on August 27.
Final preparations for the groundbreaking are continuing as construction site setup proceeds. Uraloğlu said that following ADARAY, which was put into service in Sakarya in 2024, the city’s urban rail system network continues to be expanded through new projects.
