The Ministry of Trade has assigned inspectors to examine transactions at four commodity exchanges in Ordu and Giresun, where hazelnut production and trade are carried out extensively.
The exchanges covered by the inspection are the Ordu, Giresun, Ünye and Fatsa commodity exchanges. Ministry inspectors have begun the inspection and review process concerning transactions at these exchanges.
Producer and consumer rights will be protected
Hazelnuts are among the country’s important agricultural products and account for a significant share of global hazelnut exports. Hazelnut prices and market practices come under public scrutiny, particularly during harvest periods.
The inspections are being conducted to protect producers’ rights, cover production costs, support the sustainability of production and ensure that consumers can access the product at fair prices.
Sanctions will be imposed if violations are identified
If the review identifies activities that create shortages in the market, disrupt market balance or free competition, or prevent consumers from accessing the products, administrative sanctions will be imposed under the applicable legislation.
The Ministry announced that it will continue its efforts to protect the rights of producers and consumers, ensure that markets operate efficiently and soundly, and maintain an environment of free competition.
