A high school’s visit to a mosque in California has been taken to court over allegations that Quran copies were distributed to students and female students were encouraged to wear headscarves. Last fall, students from Palo Alto High School in California visited a mosque as part of the school’s Social Justice Program. Some parents and former students alleged that Islam was presented during the visit in connection with social justice.
The plaintiffs also alleged that students were given copies of the Quran, female students were encouraged to wear headscarves, and photos taken during the visit were shared online without permission from their families. The group, which includes two Jewish parents, three former Jewish students, and Hindu and Zoroastrian parents, filed a lawsuit against the school district and Palo Alto High School Principal Brent Kline.
