Certificates were presented to those who completed an Arabic language and values education program organized for Turkish students in Damascus, the capital of Syria.
Türkiye’s Education Counselor at the Embassy in Damascus, Muhammed Musa Budak, attended the ceremony held at the Sheikh Hasan Bedreddin al-Haseni Education Center. The program was carried out through cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Türkiye’s General Directorate of Religious Education and Syria’s Ministry of Awqaf.
Arabic education through everyday life
Budak said the program was not limited to improving the students’ Arabic proficiency but also included social and cultural activities. He said the students had the opportunity to learn by using the language in everyday life and described the program as language education rooted in real life.
Budak said Damascus had a long-established history in Arabic instruction and described Syria as a center of scholarship and culture dating back centuries. He noted that Arabic language education activities in the country had begun to revive after approximately 15 years of war and said he expected demand in this field to increase over time.

Students assess the program
Mustafa Tokat, a third-year student at Istanbul Medeniyet University’s Faculty of Islamic Sciences, said the six-week Arabic language training program he attended in Damascus exceeded his expectations. Tokat said combining theoretical education with practical activities strengthened his learning and thanked those who organized and contributed to the program.
Muhammed Hasan Bilgili, a student at Kocaeli University’s Faculty of Theology, said he had also attended the program and made significant progress, particularly in speaking and vocabulary.
Bilgili said they had the opportunity to visit different cities and historical sites in Syria as part of the program. He noted that these trips helped them become more familiar with Syria’s history and cultural heritage, in addition to supporting their Arabic learning.
