AK Party spokesman Ömer Çelik told a news conference at the party’s Beykoz district office in Istanbul that party leader and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had accepted deputy chair Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya’s request to be relieved of her duties. “She is no longer a member of our Central Executive Board or Central Decision and Executive Board. From here on, we do not act on speculation,” he said.
On the fund investigations, Çelik said the issue would be pursued on the basis of Erdoğan’s principle that “whoever does wrong will be held to account,” adding that all oversight boards were on duty. “We are the pioneer, address and center of clean society and clean politics in Türkiye,” he said.
Çelik said there was no systemic risk to the Turkish economy and that all administrative and judicial measures would be taken. He also reiterated that Erdoğan is the presidential candidate of the AK Party and the People’s Alliance.
Speaking at an event of the party’s “Türkiye Century Meetings” program, Çelik also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN General Assembly speech, saying that turning the UN podium into “a propaganda stage for massacre and genocide” was shameful for everyone.
