Minister Uraloğlu announced that the Ankara–Konya High-Speed Train (YHT) line has carried 22.8 million passengers since entering service.
Opened on August 23, 2011, the Ankara–Konya YHT line became Türkiye's second high-speed rail line after the Ankara–Eskişehir line. Uraloğlu said the line marked an important step in the development of the country's high-speed rail network.
Uraloğlu said there had been no direct rail connection between Ankara and Konya before the line entered service. At the time, train journeys between the two cities ran via Eskişehir and Afyonkarahisar.
Because of this route, rail travel between Ankara and Konya took more than 10 hours. The opening of the YHT line connected the two cities directly and reduced the journey time to less than two hours.
Uraloğlu said an average of 3,500 people now travel daily by YHT on the Ankara–Konya line. He added that the line had attracted strong interest from passengers.
The Ankara–Konya line has also become integrated with other YHT lines over time. YHT connections from Konya toward Istanbul and Karaman have strengthened the city's position in rail transportation.
Uraloğlu noted that Türkiye was introduced to YHT services when the Ankara–Eskişehir line entered service on March 13, 2009, and that the country's high-speed rail network began expanding across Anatolia when the Ankara–Konya line opened about two and a half years later.
