An unnamed official who spoke to The Associated Press (AP) claimed that AI company Anthropic and US intelligence services jointly conducted a security test.
The official asserted that the test was carried out as part of trials aimed at protecting "the world's critical software" from serious negative impacts that Anthropic's Mythos model could have on public safety, national security and the economy.
The official stated that during the test, the Mythos model found some security vulnerabilities in US government computer systems containing highly sensitive information within hours, but claimed that this discovery did not mean the system could be breached in the same timeframe.
Senator Warner's statements
Democratic Senator Mark Warner, during a Senate session on June 11, referred to these tests and said, "This tool accessed almost all of our classified systems. Within hours, not weeks."
US administration imposes access ban
On June 13, the US administration decided to ban foreign governments, companies and individuals from accessing the "Fable 5" and "Mythos 5" AI models developed by Anthropic, citing a "national security threat". Following this decision, Anthropic disabled the advanced AI models for all users.
