The Vienna Symphony Orchestra met with music lovers in Istanbul. At the concert held at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), the orchestra was conducted by Petr Popelka.
In the first part of the concert, award-winning Chinese-born pianist Bruce Liu accompanied the orchestra. Born in Paris and raised in Montreal, Liu delivered a performance that reflects his multicultural identity in his artistry. The program featured German composer Ludwig van Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37," performed in the movements "Allegro con brio," "Largo," and "Rondo. Allegro."
Then, Austrian composer Franz Schubert's "Symphony No. 9 in C major, D 944," also known as the "Great," was performed. The symphony, lasting about 60 minutes, consisted of the movements "Andante-Allegro ma non troppo," "Andante con moto," "Scherzo (Allegro vivace)-Trio," and "Allegro vivace."
The concert, sponsored by Borusan Holding and completely sold out, lasted approximately two hours.
The orchestra will give a second concert tomorrow as part of the 54th Istanbul Music Festival. In that concert, it will accompany cellist Kian Soltani. The ensemble and Soltani previously performed together last January at the world premiere of composer Marcus Nigsch's Cello Concerto No. 1. The specially prepared program will bring the duo's ongoing artistic collaboration to Istanbul.
İKSV is donating a sapling for each artist performing on the festival stage.
