Seventeen suspects detained in the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation into “laundering of assets derived from crime” were referred to the courthouse after police procedures.
Following their statements to prosecutors, 15 suspects, including journalist Murat Ağırel, were sent to a criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest, while two were referred with a request for release under judicial control. Reports differed on the judgeship’s decision, and no official statement was made.

Claims worth hundreds of millions of euros
The investigation alleges that two German nationals tried to launder large sums of money of unknown origin through companies set up in Türkiye and abroad. The claims include an 80 million euro contract, a 100 million euro transfer, a promise to move a 1 billion euro fund abroad through loans, as well as the sale of a boat for 1.5 million euros.
Complainants said they had passed information and documents to journalist Ağırel and were threatened after these were relayed to the people concerned. Audio and video recordings were also examined in the investigation.
Claims about lawmaker referred to Ankara
Allegations concerning lawmaker Mustafa Sarıgül will be sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for separate assessment, according to reports.
