National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler hosted a reception for NATO Defence Ministers at the Ay Yıldız Joint Headquarters, which is under construction, as part of the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
At the reception held in the Yıldız section of the headquarters, Minister Güler greeted the visiting ministers at the door accompanied by a military band. After a commemorative photo, Güler delivered a short speech.
Inspired by the crescent and star on our flag
In his speech, Minister Güler noted that the headquarters was designed inspired by the crescent and star on the Turkish flag, and said:
This campus, which we are in and which was designed inspired by the Crescent and Star on our flag, will now unite our entire defence and military command structure under one roof. This headquarters will become operational in the near future and will be one of the world's largest headquarters. By bringing our General Staff and Force Commands together under one roof, we aim to both maximize our joint operational capability and accelerate bureaucratic processes to achieve maximum speed and efficiency.
Stating that the headquarters' security will be ensured within the context of the 'Steel Dome' strategy using top-level air and ground defence measures and security systems based on the most modern technology, Güler emphasized that the compound is equipped with 'smart and sustainable' building technologies to provide uninterrupted communication and command-and-control capability in crisis and war scenarios.
This place, beyond being a modern headquarters, is also a concrete symbol of Turkey's solid and determined stance in the field of defence and security. I am confident that our new headquarters will be a place where work will be carried out for the defence and security of both our country and our Alliance.
Güler expressed his pleasure at hosting the guests on the occasion of this first event held at the headquarters.
