Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar met in Ankara with Lebanon’s Minister of Energy and Water Joseph Saddi and his delegation.
The meeting addressed the development of regional interconnection networks between the two countries in electricity, natural gas and oil. The sides also assessed potential joint projects in the oil and natural gas sectors.
Bayraktar said Türkiye was ready to share its experience, expertise and capacity in the energy sector with Lebanon. The aim is to strengthen cooperation through projects developed on the basis of mutual benefit.
Lebanon’s energy priorities
Lebanon’s Ministry of Energy and Water announced that Saddi held a working meeting with Bayraktar in Ankara. The ministry said the meeting covered cooperation in various areas of the energy sector.
The meeting addressed the Turkish side’s interest in establishing an electricity interconnection, supplying natural gas to Lebanon, conducting activities in Lebanon’s oil exploration blocks, investing in solar and clean energy, and developing conventional power plants.
A team was established to facilitate communication between the two sides and follow up on these issues.
Energy on the bilateral agenda
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun visited Ankara in late July and met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The visit was the first official visit to Türkiye by a Lebanese president in 17 years.
At a joint press conference, Aoun said the visit had ushered in a new period in bilateral relations based on partnership, trust and a shared commitment to cooperation.
Erdoğan also announced that, in addition to support for strengthening Lebanon’s institutional capacity, humanitarian and technical assistance to the country would continue.
