A bench and a “Salah Yaylası” (Salah Plateau) sign placed by the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality next to the stone where Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah sat and was photographed on the Kurtdere plateau in Türkiye have been stolen by unknown persons.
After Salah’s photo from the plateau went viral online, the area was flooded with visitors wanting to take pictures at the same spot. Explaining why the bench and sign were installed, the municipality said: “We were saddened to see people standing… We thought it would be nicer this way for Salah’s rock.”
Angered by the theft, locals made a handmade sign reading “Muhamet Salah Taşı” (Mohamed Salah’s Stone) and planted it next to the rock. Villagers said they would install a camera to prevent a repeat.
