Berat Yıldırım was diagnosed with hyperactivity after visiting a health facility three years ago because of difficulties concentrating and excessive activity. The diagnosis followed examinations conducted by a psychiatry specialist.
His father directed him toward boxing, and Berat began training at a private gym in Siirt. Working under boxing coach Kerem Gürgen, Berat improved his skills in the sport.
Türkiye title at 48 kilograms
Berat Yıldırım won the Türkiye title in the 48-kilogram division at the Upper Minors Women's and Men's Türkiye Individual Boxing Championship held in Kayseri from June 19 to 28.
After his success, Berat was included in the national team camp and is preparing for the Upper Minors European Boxing Championship, which will be held in Trabzon from October 17 to 25.
His goal is the European title
Berat Yıldırım said it was a great opportunity for him to work with his coach, Kerem Gürgen, both on the national team and in the city where he lives. Saying that he spent the summer training, Berat said he wanted to make his country and Siirt proud by becoming European champion.
Kerem Gürgen said Berat was introduced to sports after being diagnosed with hyperactivity and quickly adapted to boxing. Gürgen said Berat had become a successful athlete at the national level after nearly three years of training.
Gürgen noted that Berat was one of the promising athletes developed within the club.
