Türkiye’s pistachio exports totaled $80.906 million from January through September 2026.
Pistachio exports, which stood at $151.827 million in the same period last year, amounted to approximately $80.9 million this year. Türkiye earned a total of $178.203 million from pistachio exports to 94 countries last year.
Italy was the top export destination
Italy was the leading destination for pistachio exports during the nine-month period, with shipments worth $19.248 million. Germany followed with $13.668 million, while Kazakhstan ranked third with $7.724 million.
New-season products begin entering the market
Faruk Akbaş, chairman of the Central Union of Türkiye’s Pistachio Producers, said pistachios are used in many sectors, from food and desserts to nuts and chocolate, making them a strategic product because of their wide range of uses.
Akbaş said pistachio production naturally alternates between high and low yields from year to year, adding that 2026 is considered an “off year” for the sector. He noted that adverse weather conditions last year also affected this year’s yield.
Akbaş said new-season products had been harvested and were beginning to enter the market. He added that exports were expected to reach higher levels, particularly in the final quarter of the year, as these products are included in export shipments.
Akbaş said producers had completed the harvest despite adverse weather conditions and 2026 being considered an “off year.” He expressed expectations of positive momentum in exports as new-season pistachios enter the market.
Search for new markets continues
Akbaş said the distinctive aroma and quality characteristics of Turkish pistachios were increasing overseas demand, adding that efforts were continuing to expand Türkiye’s share of the global pistachio export market.
Akbaş said work was continuing both to preserve existing markets and to enter new ones. He noted that the goal was to make Turkish pistachios available to consumers in more countries and diversify export markets.
Akbaş emphasized that efforts targeting new markets were important for increasing the sector’s export potential.
