Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index closed lower, falling 28.07 points from its previous close. Total trading volume on the index stood at 198.2 billion liras.
Sector index performance
The banking index fell 0.03%, while the holding companies index declined 1.22%.
Financial leasing and factoring was the top-performing sector, gaining 6.10%, while chemicals, petroleum and plastics recorded the sharpest decline, falling 4.43%.
Global markets and the BIST 100
Risk appetite was supported in global markets by expectations that the US plan for sanctions on Iran would be more limited than anticipated, as well as by a sharp drop in oil prices. However, markets followed a mixed course ahead of Nvidia’s expected earnings report.
On Borsa Istanbul, intensified selling pressure driven by uncertainties over global trade policies and geopolitical developments contributed to the BIST 100 index ending the day under pressure.
Data and technical levels to watch
While a quiet data agenda is expected domestically the following day, a busy flow of data will be monitored abroad, led by US personal consumption expenditures and annualized gross domestic product.
Technically, levels of 14,400 and 14,300 points stand out as support for the BIST 100 index, while 14,600 and 14,700 points are seen as resistance.
