Tourism activity continues in Bodrum during the “Indian summer” period, when summer ends and autumn begins, the weather remains mild and the sea is still suitable for swimming.
Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci said events aimed at extending the tourism season had gained momentum with the arrival of October. The Bodrum Fish Festival and the 9th International Bodrum Half Marathon, which drew approximately 2,650 athletes from 23 countries, contributed to activity in the district.
Visitor activity involving approximately 10,000 people was recorded as part of the half marathon. Mandalinci said they did not want to limit tourism to the summer months and aimed to attract visitors to Bodrum throughout the year with gastronomy, cultural, environmental and sports events.
Mandalinci said they wanted to welcome visitors for 10 months of the year in Bodrum. He noted that plans were in place to restore structures such as the windmills and Aya Nikola and open them to visitors in order to bring the town’s historical assets into tourism.

Bodrum aims to extend the tourism season first to six months, then to nine months and, in the long term, to 12 months.
Events contribute to hotel occupancy
Ömer Faruk Dengiz, president of the Bodrum Hoteliers Association, said events held in the autumn had a positive impact on accommodation facilities. Dengiz said organisations such as the Boat Show, Bodrum Cup and half marathon supported tourism activity, adding that air traffic on domestic routes remained strong and cruise services would continue until November 5.

Yiğit Girgin, Bodrum representative of the Association of Professional Hotel Managers, said tourism activity, which had slowed after schools reopened, had picked up again with Indian summer events. Girgin said festival programmes created activity in the town centre and at hotels, while keeping more businesses open during the winter contributed to employment.
Sports events support the winter season
Tourism professional and hotel operator Kemal Özyurt said sports and cultural events allowed hotels to continue operating during the winter season. Özyurt said approximately 800 athletes were expected to take part in the Rowing Festival to be held in Bitez in November, adding that accommodation for football, basketball and volleyball matches also contributed to the facilities.
Özyurt said the organisations enabled hotels to remain open throughout the year and noted that efforts to extend the tourism season would continue.
