The body was identified
The male body found at sea off Silivri in the Marmara Sea after the ship accident on September 2 was identified as belonging to Yaşar Kayhan, the first captain of the Tuğberk İmamoğlu.
Search-and-rescue efforts were carried out by units from the Coast Guard Command, the Coastal Safety Directorate General and the Turkish Naval Forces Command. The body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute to identify one of the crew members who went missing in the accident and determine the exact cause of death.
Two commercial ships collided
The accident occurred approximately 18 nautical miles offshore in the Marmara Sea. The commercial ship Alsu, sailing from Kocaeli to Aliağa, collided with the Tuğberk İmamoğlu, which was sailing from İskenderun Port to Karadeniz Ereğli.
The Tuğberk İmamoğlu, which had a 10-person crew, sank after the collision. On the fourth day of the accident, the Turkish Naval Forces Command's TCG Akın rescue vessel located the wreck with the support of advanced sonar systems and a remotely operated underwater vehicle.
Investigation continues
Diving and scanning activities were intensified in the area where the wreck was found. The body was found approximately 5 kilometers from the collision site.
The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said the investigation into the incident was continuing and that the necessary procedures were ongoing to establish the material truth in all its aspects.
