In Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, journalist Sonya Koltuklieva was injured after a guard protecting Parliament Speaker Mihaela Dotsova intervened as she tried to ask Dotsova a question.
The incident took place on October 22 outside the headquarters of the Progressive Bulgaria party on Hristo Botev Boulevard. The journalist opened the door of the official vehicle carrying Dotsova and fell on her back onto the pavement after being pushed by a guard from the National Security Service (NSO). Koltuklieva was taken to hospital by ambulance after suffering a blow to the head and a dislocated shoulder.
Dotsova said the incident was “completely unacceptable” and expressed regret, but added that she could not tell NSO personnel what they should do. The Military District Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the incident, and the guard was detained.
The GERB-SDS parliamentary group called for Dotsova's resignation, while the NSO also launched an inquiry into the incident.
