Following a weekend of looting and clashes in France, the government and local authorities have introduced curfews in several cities where protests intensified.

In Paris, a curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. applies around Place de la République and Les Halles, and protests have been banned in certain areas from 8 p.m. In Lyon, parts of the city are under a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
In Nice, Mayor Eric Ciotti signed an order for an overnight curfew for minors. A two-day curfew for minors from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. has also been introduced in Lille, Douai, Wattignies and Denain, while gatherings and demonstrations have been banned in Marseille.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu ruled out a citywide curfew in Paris for now. According to the Interior Ministry, around 2,400 people were detained during the weekend and nearly 1,000 security personnel were injured. The protests, which grew out of weeks of student demonstrations, are driven by concerns over the cost of living and public services. Unions have called for new strikes and rallies on Nov. 5.
