CHP Deputy Group Chairman Murat Emir made remarks at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) regarding current issues. Emir called on the Court of Cassation to make a decision on the internal party processes as soon as possible. He announced that the request for an extraordinary congress, supported by approximately 900 signatures, will be submitted to the CHP Headquarters on Wednesday.
"We will deliver our extraordinary congress request to our Headquarters on Wednesday with nearly 900 signatures, including 74 provincial chairpersons and delegates from provinces not acting in unison with us," said Emir, emphasizing that the process is being carried out with the will of the organization. 'ÖZGÜR ÖZEL WILL NOT HOLD A GROUP MEETING' CHP Deputy Group Chairman Murat Emir stated, "There has been no application from our Headquarters to hold a group meeting in the Parliament.
We understand that they are not working on a group meeting. We are pleased. And our party leader, especially considering the fatigue of our organizations after such intense support, has decided not to hold a group meeting this week," he added. Emir's statement continued: "The path to electing the group chairman is clear.
The person who was appointed in some way and currently holds the position of party leader has no right to make decisions regarding our group chairman. They referred nine of our friends to disciplinary action with precautionary measures, claiming they would establish superiority in the Party Assembly and intimidate others. But this is completely unlawful. Our bylaws are very clear.
They state that you cannot refer a member, a provincial executive board member, a mayor, or a deputy to disciplinary action with precautionary measures just like that. A deputy cannot interfere; the Party Assembly decides. There is no room for doubt. We know there is no justice in this country, but let everyone know that we persistently follow these processes. Our friends will return, and everyone should take this into account. They removed two of our deputy chairmen through this method.
There is no article in the internal regulations or political parties law that grants the party leader the authority to appoint deputy group chairmen. Tayyip Erdoğan does not appoint them either. He points and they choose. Deputy group chairmen are elected by the group. If the party leader is satisfied with the deputy group chairmen, he can extend their term. He cannot say, 'I am not satisfied; I will bring someone else.' If they do not recognize the law, that is another matter.
Our Parliament Speaker made a mistake by dismissing our deputy group chairmen. He ignored our internal regulations and disregarded the Constitution. Until a new one is elected, the deputy group chairmen continue their duties in Parliament. A party group cannot be without deputy chairmen. Look at the history and practices of the Parliament. The Parliament Speaker does not deal with the Headquarters; the counterpart of the Parliament Speaker is the group chairmanship.
We warn once again from here. You have taken on a burden before history, this nation, and CHP members that you cannot bear. This is a palace operation. It is never legal. It is a dirty plan designed to stop CHP's march to power. Do not do this injustice to the party. The Court of Cassation must decide immediately. The congress must be convened by July 20 without delay.
CHP is one of the oldest parties in Turkey and the world. It faces the risk of not being allowed to participate in elections. We state clearly: We are in our party. We are here; we are not going anywhere. Do not believe the claims that they are doing this or that. Do not believe any words from those outside our party, our leader, and authorized bodies.
We will submit our extraordinary congress request to the Headquarters on Wednesday with nearly 900 signatures, including 74 provincial chairpersons and delegates from provinces not acting in unison with us. 'We cannot hold an extraordinary congress'—signatures were collected, 'we cannot hold it'—they do everything without precautionary measures but avoid doing what they should.
This honor suits everyone; we invite everyone to act with common sense. We insistently reiterate our congress request. Last week, our party leader said he would go to Manisa on the anniversary of Ferdi Zeyrek's death and hold a group meeting. When news came from the Headquarters, a new evaluation was made, and we held our group meeting with enthusiasm, showing the will of the people.
This week, we are pleased to learn that no application for a group meeting has been made from the Headquarters to the Parliament. Our party leader, after the intense support of our organizations, has decided not to hold a group meeting this week." (POLITICS SERVICE).
