The legendary American actor and director Clint Eastwood turned 96 last weekend (May 31), and confirmation may have come that the Hollywood star has now definitely retired. In a recently surfaced interview given to the French channel France 3 (source English), Eastwood's son, musician and composer Kyle Eastwood, announces that his father has officially and quietly retired. "I have very beautiful memories working with him. He is now retired, 95 years old," said Kyle Eastwood, who made these remarks before his father's birthday. "But I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with him in many films. It was a great experience for me." Clint Eastwood began his film career in the mid-1950s and became famous in the 1960s with three Westerns directed by Sergio Leone – A Fistful Of Dollars (1964), For A Few Dollars More (1965), and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (1966) – this trilogy is also known as the "Dollars Trilogy." Throughout his career spanning seven decades, Eastwood left his mark with classics in which he played the rule-breaking cop Harry Callahan, including Dirty Harry (1971), Magnum Force (1973), The Enforcer (1976), Sudden Impact (1983), and The Dead Pool (1988). Other unforgettable performances by Eastwood include films such as The Beguiled, Thunderbolt And Lightfoot, Escape From Alcatraz, Pale Rider, Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, and Gran Torino. Clint Eastwood's directing career began in 1971 with Play Misty For Me. Throughout his career, he directed films such as Bird, The Rookie, Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, the duo Flags Of Our Fathers / Letters From Iwo Jima, Invictus, American Sniper, Sully, and Richard Jewell. This impressive filmography, consisting of over seventy acting and 40 directing credits, earned Eastwood four Academy Awards (including two Best Director Oscars for Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby), four Golden Globes, and two Directors Guild of America Awards. He was also honored multiple times with an Honorary César in 1998, an Honorary Golden Lion in 2000, and an Honorary Palme d'Or in 2008. It should also be noted that Eastwood led five actors to Oscar victories: Gene Hackman (Unforgiven), Sean Penn and Tim Robbins (both Mystic River), Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman (both Million Dollar Baby). If Clint has truly retired, the 2024 courtroom drama Juror #2 will be his last directing work. On the acting front, his farewell performance in front of the camera appears to be Cry Macho, made in 2021, which he also directed.
