Greece's Police Authority dismantled a criminal network that illegally tampered with electricity meters across the country. According to a written statement from the police, network members digitally manipulated meters to show lower consumption than actual usage, providing financial benefits to legal entities and private individuals.
Initial investigations show that the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDHE) suffered over €9 million in damages due to these actions. The criminal network was found to have made approximately €400,000 in illicit profits.
In the operation, a total of five people, including three network members, were taken into custody. The investigation dossier includes 101 legal and private entities suspected of being linked to the network and benefiting from this illegal service.
According to information in the Greek press, the network's client portfolio includes well-known restaurants, gas stations, and fast food chains.
