EU member states have agreed on the terms for releasing €6.6 billion from the European Peace Facility for Ukraine.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the decision was good news for Ukraine and bad news for Russia.
How the fund will be used
According to Kallas, €900 million will be used to support the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine. Another €1 billion will be allocated for the joint procurement of new military equipment.
The remaining €4.7 billion will be reimbursed to EU member states. Kallas said some countries had announced that they would direct their respective shares to Ukraine.
Kallas speaks about hybrid attacks
Kallas said Moscow was trying to persuade Europe to reduce its support for Ukraine through hybrid attacks. She said Europe was increasing its support instead of reducing it.
The European Peace Facility is an EU-funded mechanism that supports the provision of military assistance to partner countries. The facility has previously been used to provide military equipment and supplies to Ukraine and to finance the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine.
