Minister Kurum announced that 205,709,303 DOA-branded PET, aluminum and glass beverage containers had been collected across Türkiye through the DOA system between July 1 and September 5.
The number of registered users in the system has reached 3,214,992. Under DOA, beverage containers are placed in special machines instead of being thrown away, enabling them to be recycled.
Antalya collected the most containers
Antalya ranked first in the amount of containers collected, with 46,678,972 containers. It was followed by Istanbul with 38,675,928 containers and Izmir with 24,339,288.
A total of 18,723,778 containers were collected in Adana and 16,712,516 in Ankara.
One lira incentive per container
Under the system, which is coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and operated by the Türkiye Environment Agency, citizens receive an incentive payment of 1 lira for each container they return.
The DOA system aims to prevent plastics from entering the environment and to provide raw materials to the national economy through recycling. The system targets the collection of 25 billion containers annually and a contribution of 30 billion liras to Türkiye’s economy.
