After the death of Irmak Koparan, EÄitim-İŠAÄrı Branch raised numerous questions to National Education officials concerning the assignment process, transportation conditions, and administrative decisions. The union demanded clarification of the problems faced by the teacher and a transparent review of the process.
Assignment Process Becomes a Subject of Debate
According to the unionās statement, Irmak Koparan was initially assigned to SoÄanlıtepe Primary School in the Hamur district at the start of the 2025-2026 academic year but was then reassigned to Karakazan Primary and Secondary School due to a personal excuse. However, during the continuation of her excuse period, she was reportedly sent back to SoÄanlıtepe Primary School, one of the most remote schools in the district, where her original position was located.
EÄitim-İŠrequested an explanation for this decision. The union stated that after an alleged fight at Karakazan Primary and Secondary School, the teacherās assignment was canceled, but the transfer of the school principal raised questions.
Allegations of Violence and Change of Workplace
The statement conveyed that Irmak Koparan had previously claimed to have been subjected to violence by the school principal, and some other teachers made similar statements. Despite this, the fact that the teacher was the one whose workplace was changed led the union to question why the process was handled in this way.
EÄitim-İŠdemanded that these allegations be clearly revealed and that the reasons for the changes in assignments be publicly explained.
Transportation and Accommodation Issues Also Raised
The unionās statement included information that Koparan faced accommodation problems because another teacher was residing in the school dormitory where she was assigned. It was noted that the school is approximately 50 kilometers from the district center, and the teacher expressed on various platforms that she had to spend a significant amount to reach the school.
The statement also suggested that the teacher frequently shared her financial difficulties with relatives. The union highlighted allegations that the District National Education Directorate did not adequately respond to these requests.
Questions Directed to the Governorship and Provincial Directorate
EÄitim-İŠAÄrı Branch stated that the teacherās problems were repeatedly reported to relevant institutions but alleged that the demands were ignored and called for an investigation into these claims. The union also asked whether the Provincial National Education Directorate and AÄrı Governorship were aware of the process.
The branch further requested an examination of whether union influences affected assignment practices across the province, whether administrators acted impartially, and whether belonging to the same union influenced decision-making processes.
Criticism of Condolence Message
The statement also alleged that neither the teacherās union nor the District National Education Directorate issued a condolence message after the incident. EÄitim-İŠcriticized this situation, arguing that institutions should act more openly and sensitively regarding the process.
The union demanded that all allegations related to the teacherās death be investigated independently and transparently and that the public be regularly informed.
