Galatasaray have signed 21-year-old El Chadaille Bitshiabu during this summer’s transfer window, following Lesley Ugochukwu, Aleksey Batrakov and Rafael Leao. Bitshiabu has become the 12th French footballer in the club’s history.
Galatasaray had previously signed Didier Six, Sebastien Perez, Franck Ribery, Lionel Carole, Bafetimbi Gomis, Cedric Carrasso, Steven Nzonzi, Sacha Boey, Leo Dubois, Tanguy Ndombele and Lesley Ugochukwu.
Number of foreign footballers rises to 220
Bitshiabu’s transfer has raised the number of foreign footballers to sign contracts with Galatasaray in the club’s history to 220. Since 1959, when the top flight—formerly known as the Turkish 1st Football League—began, the club had reached agreements with 219 foreign footballers from 6 continents and 55 countries.
Bitshiabu’s international career
Bitshiabu made a total of 21 appearances for France’s youth national teams. The young footballer played 9 matches for the under-17 team, 6 for the under-18 team, 5 for the under-19 team and 1 for the under-20 team.
Most footballers came from Brazil
Since 1959, Galatasaray have signed more Brazilian footballers than players from any other country. Twenty-five Brazilian footballers have played for the club, followed by Yugoslavia with 16 and Romania with 15.
Foreign footballers of Turkish descent at Galatasaray
Eight footballers of Turkish descent who held the citizenship of other countries also played for Galatasaray. The group included Swiss passport holders Kubilay Türkyılmaz, Hakan Yakın and Eren Derdiyok; German citizens Pierre Esser, Kerem Demirbay and İlkay Gündoğan; Jimmy Durmaz, who played for Sweden’s national team; and Yusuf Demir, who held an Austrian passport.
