Emotional messages from the art community after Kadir İnanır's death
Following the death of veteran actor Kadir İnanır, Hülya Koçyiğit, Gül Sunal and many other artists expressed their emotions. A ceremony for İnanır will be held in Harbiye on June 28.
The death of veteran actor Kadir İnanır has caused deep sorrow in the art world. His close friends and colleagues shared memories of his personality, his art, and did not leave him alone on his final journey.
Artist Hülya Koçyiğit, in a statement to CNN Türk, said that İnanır was always exactly as he appeared, "He was a person who spoke his mind when necessary, could make his friends laugh with his jokes, a genuine, sincere and faithful person. He pursued his profession with great passion and love. If he hadn't, he wouldn't have been so successful."
Stating that İnanır's death is a huge loss for Turkish cinema, Koçyiğit said, "Kadir İnanır is an actor who left his mark on a country's cultural and artistic life. He was extremely disciplined, moral and honest in his profession. He was a friend with a pure heart. Unfortunately, he had been undergoing very serious treatment for the last two years. Every death is premature. For me, his death is very premature."
Emphasizing that İnanır was a citizen who felt a sense of responsibility towards his country, Koçyiğit noted, "He accepted being a 'wise person' with the feeling that there should be no terror in this country, only brotherhood and peace. He made an effort with great belief, and I was with him, by his side. Unfortunately, we were heavily criticized by some political circles. I think these criticisms caused a fracture in Kadir's heart. I wish he could have lived to see these days, to see the days when there is no more terrorism in this country, peace has prevailed again, when brotherhood, friendship, walking together, singing folk songs and songs together are taking place."
Gül Sunal, wife of the late Turkish cinema master Kemal Sunal, expressed that their whole family loved İnanır deeply, saying, "İnanır was a very dear and trusted friend of Kemal (Sunal). After Kemal, he became a warm older brother to my children. When Ali was in military service, he called and asked how he was. He said, 'Do you need anything?' I can say he was Kemal's only friend who would do that. His word was his bond, trustworthy. He was a magnificent person."
Sunal also described İnanır as a very good actor: "He was a very handsome man. I don't think he was very aware of it. His life was very humble. He lived like an ordinary person and managed his emotions the same way. I will remember him with gratitude for the rest of my life."
Other members of the art community also shared their sorrow on social media. State Theatres General Director Tamer Karadağlı posted, "Rest in peace, Kadir Abi... My condolences," while Cem Yılmaz said, "May the heaven be your abode, our valuable elder, the giant of our cinema, our brother Kadir İnanır." Demet Akbağ used the words, "Turkish cinema has lost another treasure."
Behzat Uygur, Ajda Pekkan and Nebahat Çehre also expressed their feelings and remembered İnanır with mercy. Çehre pointed out the lasting impact of the veteran actor on cinema with the words, "Some farewells take away not only a person but also an era."
Kadir İnanır will be laid to rest on Sunday, June 28. The ceremony, previously announced to be held at the Atatürk Cultural Center, will take place at the Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage at 1:00 PM. Following the ceremony, after the afternoon prayer, a funeral prayer will be held at the Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Mosque, and the veteran actor will be laid to rest in the Ulus Cemetery.
