OpenAI has released its new-generation GPT-5.6 AI model series for a limited preview. According to a statement from the company, the flagship model "Sol" was developed with the strongest security infrastructure to date.
The "Terra" model was described as a balanced option for daily use, while "Luna" is said to be a fast and cost-effective model.
The preview process was launched at the request of the US government. OpenAI said it shared its plans and the models' capabilities with government officials prior to the announcement. In the statement, it said, "Before making the models more widely available, we are launching a limited preview with a small group of trusted partners whose participation details have also been shared with the government."
The company stressed that such a government access process should not become standard practice in the long term. The statement said, "This situation prevents users, developers, businesses, cyber defenders and global business partners in need from accessing the best tools."
The three models are expected to be released to the general public in the coming weeks.
