Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with US President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Finnish President Alexander Stubb on the first day of the 36th NATO Summit in Ankara.
In a statement on social media, Duran said the talks, held at the Presidential Complex, addressed the development of bilateral relations and the strengthening of cooperation in defense industry, trade, energy and security.
Duran emphasized that Erdoğan once again demonstrated Türkiye's determined diplomatic stance for regional peace and stability during the talks, and that the leader called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, dialogue to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war, and progress in the Iran-US process.
Pointing out that defense industry cooperation was one of the most important topics of the talks, the Communications Director said that Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan hosted a reception in honor of the leaders and their spouses attending the summit, which strengthened friendly dialogue among leaders and reinforced the spirit of solidarity among allies.
Duran added that Türkiye will continue to enhance cooperation with its allies under President Erdoğan's leadership and actively contribute to regional and international peace.
The 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government is the second NATO summit hosted by Türkiye, following the 2004 Istanbul Summit. The summit holds particular importance in light of the challenges facing the alliance and the global security system.
