President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan assessed the “Terror-Free Türkiye” process and the PKK’s decisions to dissolve and lay down its arms in an interview with the U.S.-based Newsweek magazine.

Erdoğan said they viewed the PKK’s decisions to dissolve and lay down its arms as an important threshold, emphasizing that the full implementation of the decisions on the ground was essential for the process to produce results.
“All elements of the organization need to lay down their arms, the illegal structure needs to be dismantled, and this process needs to be identified and verified by the relevant institutions of our state,” Erdoğan said, adding that state institutions were closely monitoring the process.

President Erdoğan also said they viewed the goal of a “Terror-Free Türkiye” as a strategic objective rather than a matter of scheduling.
Erdoğan’s remarks emphasized that the disarmament process should not be limited to the decisions taken and that implementation on the ground must also be verified by the relevant state institutions.
