Speaking at a special program held in Ankara for August 30 Victory Day, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that a new era would begin in the region once terrorism ends.
Referring to developments in Syria in recent days, Erdoğan said, "As the pages of terrorism close, hope will grow and a new wind will begin to blow across our region."
"We have an opportunity to open a new page in history"
Erdoğan said that, after great hardships, Türkiye had gained an opportunity to open a new and brighter page in history and that they would not allow this opportunity to be missed.
Erdoğan said Türkiye was determined to further strengthen cooperation in every field, starting with its neighbors and extending to regions with which it shares cultural and historical ties.
Emphasis on independence
Calling on those seeking to provoke Türkiye to look at history, Erdoğan said they could also see their own past in history books.
Emphasizing Türkiye's determination to defend its independence, Erdoğan said the nation had maintained its existence in these lands for centuries by relying on its own strength. President Erdoğan said the Republic of Türkiye, like the states that preceded it, was established not through the favor of another power but through the sacrifice of a brave person from every household.
Ship accident off Northern Cyprus
Erdoğan also addressed the passenger ship that capsized off the coast of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He announced that the necessary steps would be taken in cooperation with the Turkish Cypriot authorities to determine the causes of the accident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
August 30 Victory Day is celebrated as the anniversary of the decisive battle that halted the Greek advance in western Anatolia in 1922. The victory paved the way for the final stages of the Turkish War of Independence, the withdrawal of occupying forces and the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye.
