President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said they were making intensive efforts to keep Türkiye on the path of development and prosperity despite conflicts in the region.
Erdoğan made the remarks in a televised speech after chairing a Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex in the historic Ahlat district of Bitlis. Erdoğan said the meeting addressed key issues concerning Türkiye, adding that foreign policy, trade, security and the Terror-Free Türkiye process were among the main items on the agenda.
The Terror-Free Türkiye process
Erdoğan stressed the vital importance of the “National Solidarity and Social Integration” law for the Terror-Free Türkiye process. Saying that Türkiye was moving in the right direction and that its goal was clear, Erdoğan said the country would eventually achieve its objective.
Erdoğan described the harmonious and selfless work of experienced and competent teams during this difficult process as one of Türkiye’s greatest strengths. He said the country was secure and that the trust of 86 million citizens was in reliable hands.
The “National Solidarity and Social Integration” law was published in the Official Gazette on August 18 after being adopted by the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on August 10. The law was prepared as part of the Terror-Free Türkiye process.
The regulation sets out procedures for postponing ongoing investigations and prosecutions and for enforcing convictions after it is established that the organization and affiliated formations have ended their de facto existence and surrendered all the weapons and ammunition in their possession.
Under the law, investigations and cases concerning offenses within its scope may be postponed for five years if the maximum prescribed prison sentence does not exceed 15 years. Intentional homicide offenses committed as part of the organization’s activities, as well as offenses committed before June 1, 2005, that carry an aggravated life sentence, are excluded from this scope.
The economic agenda
Erdoğan said the government was continuing to work toward its targets in employment, exports, agriculture and tourism despite the impact of economic crises in the region.
Erdoğan said the effects of the shock wave created in the global economy by tensions between Iran and the United States would become more visible in daily life as their impact diminished. He added that this difficult period, shaped by crises, was being managed through a dynamic approach.
Erdoğan said they attached importance to protecting the state’s and the public’s resources without resorting to populism. He listed keeping the wheels of the economy turning, protecting citizens’ jobs and livelihoods, and reducing the impact of fluctuations in commodity prices as much as possible among their priorities. He also said they aimed to capitalize on existing opportunities, particularly in the defense industry and international investment.
