President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with representatives of the Turkish-American business community at the Turkish House in New York, where he was attending the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Addressing Türkiye-US economic and trade relations at the meeting, Erdoğan said strategic cooperation between the two countries was developing across many areas.
Erdoğan said they wanted the momentum achieved in political relations to be reflected in economic and trade ties as well, adding that Türkiye and the United States had significant economic potential.

Erdoğan said important agreements had recently been concluded through joint work by the two countries in energy, aviation and other critical sectors. He added that the United States ranked first among Türkiye’s LNG suppliers.
President Erdoğan also said they aimed to expand cooperation in the energy sector into a broader field, including nuclear energy.

Target of $100 billion in trade volume
Erdoğan said economic relations between Türkiye and the United States should not be assessed solely on the basis of current trade figures. He said the two countries needed to develop a strategic economic cooperation model in the changing global economic order.
Erdoğan said Türkiye’s defense industry, which produces according to NATO standards, had reached the capacity to contribute to the supply security of allied countries.
The meeting addressed numerous sectors, particularly industry, finance, energy, transportation, healthcare and defense.
Erdoğan said they aimed to maintain the momentum in economic relations as the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and the United States approached. He added that he believed the two countries could reach their target of $100 billion in trade volume in a short time.
