President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered key messages on regional crises and Türkiye’s stance at the Muhtars’ Day gathering at the Presidential Complex. “Just like our heroic ancestors, as long as we courageously stand not with the oppressors but with the oppressed, whatever their faith, they will keep dealing with us,” he said.
“We will always remain on alert against those who try to crush our nation’s hope, break its morale and build walls of discord among us,” Erdoğan said.
“A ring of fire around us”
Turning to the region, Erdoğan said: “There is a ring of fire around us; this is exactly the situation we are in.” He noted that the Russia-Ukraine war will complete its fifth year in a few months and said Israel’s attacks on Palestine continue unabated despite the agreements signed.
“Before tensions in our neighbor Iran had fully ended, the fuse of a new conflict was lit in Yemen,” Erdoğan said, adding that “Houthi attacks targeting our friend and brother Saudi Arabia have escalated tensions.” On Syria, he said: “The best news is coming from Syria, but Zionist Israel is doing everything it can to stir up trouble there too.”
The section of Erdoğan’s speech on regional crises and Türkiye’s stance:
“We kept our country out of the conflicts”
Stressing that Türkiye has pursued a calm policy, Erdoğan said: “We kept our country out of the conflicts around us. We did not take the bait, fall into traps or respond to provocations.” He added: “In such chaos, we are working day and night so that no harm comes to Türkiye.”
“As long as we throw a spanner in the works of those who want to tear our region apart, they will never leave us alone,” he said. “We will not bow to those who want to build their own prosperity by exploiting the world and turning our region into a sea of blood.” He added: “We will be very careful against dark and dirty games. Great nations face great tests.”

Message to muhtars
In the first part of his speech, Erdoğan called neighborhood heads, or muhtars, “the frontier lords of democracy.” Responding to those who once belittled him, he said: “They humiliated us by saying he cannot even be a muhtar. They could never accept that all the doors of the state were opened to muhtars.”
He said the payment to muhtars, which was just 97 liras in 2002, has been raised to more than 28,000 liras as of 2026, and that the state has covered their social security premiums since 2017, alongside steps to cut their energy costs and improve working conditions.
