Formula 1 and the FIA announced that the Turkish Grand Prix will be held again at Istanbul Park starting with the 2027 season. Under the five-year agreement, Istanbul Park will be included in the Formula 1 World Championship calendar from the 2027 through the 2031 seasons. The Turkish Automobile Sports Federation will serve as the event’s delivery and operational partner for future races.

The agreement brings Formula 1 back to Türkiye through long-term planning rather than a one-off race on the calendar. Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy also announced that Istanbul Park would host Formula 1 races through the end of the 2031 season. Officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism assessed preparations, interagency coordination and promotional efforts for the 2027 event.
Istanbul Park’s Formula 1 history
Istanbul Park was first added to the Formula 1 calendar in 2005. After the Turkish Grand Prix was held from 2005 to 2011, it was removed from the calendar. The circuit returned to Formula 1 for the 2020 and 2021 seasons as part of a reshaped race schedule prompted by the pandemic.

Lewis Hamilton won the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, securing his seventh world title and matching Michael Schumacher’s record. Valtteri Bottas won the 2021 race, the most recent Turkish Grand Prix held at Istanbul Park. Including the 2020 and 2021 races, the circuit has hosted a total of nine Formula 1 races.
The circuit stands out for its technical layout
With a length of approximately 5.33 kilometers, pronounced elevation changes and the highly technical Turn 8, Istanbul Park is regarded as one of the more technically demanding circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. These features make Istanbul Park one of the defining elements of the Turkish Grand Prix’s return to the race calendar.
The 2027 event will mark Türkiye’s first full-agreement return to Formula 1 since 2021. Although 1–3 October 2027 has been cited as a possible race date, Formula 1, the FIA and TOSFED have not officially announced it as the race weekend. The event in Istanbul is expected to be significant for sports tourism, international promotion and the event economy.
