Jesse van Schaik, a Dutch activist who joined the Global Sumud Fleet detained by Israel in international waters, shared his experiences. Van Schaik stated that they were fired upon with plastic bullets and that people were brutally beaten. After being forced at gunpoint onto the deck of their own boats, activists were harshly detained and held illegally on military ships for two nights. Approximately 180 people had to sleep like animals in four small containers. It was reported that many had no place to sleep and had to take turns walking in the cold throughout the night. Other sources include allegations that activists were subjected to physical and sexual assault, but there is no definitive information on these matters.
