Ankara — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attended the informal meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States.
The meeting was held during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Establishment of the Organization of Turkic States
The Organization of Turkic States was established under the name Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States following the signing of the Nakhchivan Agreement by Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on October 3, 2009.
Uzbekistan joined the organization at the Baku Summit in 2019, bringing the number of member states to five. Turkmenistan, Hungary and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus hold observer status in the organization.
At the summit held in Istanbul in 2021, it was decided to change the organization’s name from the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States to the Organization of Turkic States.
