Heavy rain that began during the night and intensified in the early morning caused flooding in Pendik and Tuzla, the districts that received the most rainfall on Istanbul's Asian side. Streets and roads turned into lakes, leaving some vehicles stranded in pools of water.
Tuzla-Pendik direction of D-100 closed
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Transportation Management Center announced that the Tuzla-Pendik direction of the D-100 highway had been closed to traffic on both the main road and the service road because of adverse weather conditions and flooding. Traffic was diverted to Aydınlı Yolu Avenue, an alternative route. Traffic congestion in the city reached 80 percent.
Father and daughter trapped in underpass
The underpass in Pendik's Çamçeşme neighborhood also filled with water. The vehicle of Cengiz Bektaş, who was trying to drive through the underpass, stalled in the water. Bektaş and his daughter, whom he was taking to university, were trapped in the vehicle and were rescued with help from bystanders.
