Fenerbahçe have parted ways with coach İsmail Kartal by mutual agreement after he resigned following a 2-1 Süper Lig derby defeat at Galatasaray. The club notified Türkiye's Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) of the decision.
"We thank İsmail Kartal for his efforts, dedication and commitment to Fenerbahçe," the club said, wishing him success in his career.

Second resignation this season
Kartal submitted his resignation to the board earlier in the day. President Aziz Yıldırım and football official Cihan Kamer then met him at the club's Samandıra training complex and accepted it. Kartal had also resigned after a match against Roma earlier this season but was persuaded by Yıldırım to stay.
In his fourth spell at the club, Kartal won 9 of 18 matches and lost 4, and he led Fenerbahçe back to the Champions League after 18 years. Defeats to Beşiktaş and Galatasaray and a 6-0 loss at Aston Villa increased the pressure. The derby defeat left Fenerbahçe six points off the top.
Vincenzo Montella and Aykut Kocaman have been mentioned as possible successors.
