Hull City, who earned promotion to the Premier League after last season's Championship play-offs, will host Manchester United in their first match of the 38-game league campaign. The match at MKM Stadium will begin tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Turkey time.
Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic will look for points against Manchester United by balancing the new signings with the players who took the team to the top flight last season. The number of injured players is making squad selection more difficult for the coaching staff.
Hull City make 11 additions to their squad
During the final part of the summer transfer window, which runs until September 1, Hull City are seeking reinforcements on the right wing, in midfield and in attack. The club have so far signed 11 players.
The English side brought in Konstantinos Tzolakis and Jack Butland as goalkeepers, while strengthening their defense with Nobel Mendy, signed for a club-record transfer fee, Lucas Herrington and Matt Targett.
Hull City added Jens Hjerto-Dahl, Hidemasa Morita, Lucas Gourna-Douath and Oscar Zambrano to their midfield. Elliot Stroud joined for the left wing, while Joe Gelhardt, who played for the club on loan last season, was added to the attack.
Injuries concern Jakirovic
The fact that Hull City face Manchester United in their opening league match and Chelsea in the fourth week makes the team's injured players particularly significant.
Konstantinos Tzolakis is expected to start the new season in goal, while Jack Butland, who joined from Rangers, will be unable to play until the end of the year after undergoing surgery on his arm.
It is not known when center-back Charlie Hughes, who played in 38 matches last season, will return because of a groin injury. Midfielder Darko Gyabi, who is also dealing with a groin injury, is expected to be sidelined for at least three months.
Hidemasa Morita, who joined from Sporting Lisbon, has started individual training after recovering from a calf injury. The Japanese midfielder is planned to be included in the squad for the Manchester United match.
Right-back Cody Drameh, who had been sidelined after aggravating a hamstring injury, has also returned to training and is expected to be included in the matchday squad.
Oli McBurnie and Joe Gelhardt lead Hull City's attack
Thirty-year-old Oli McBurnie, who played a major role in Hull City's promotion to the Premier League last season with 17 goals, will again be the team's main source of goals.
Joe Gelhardt scored 14 goals for Hull City during his loan spell last season, and the club have signed him permanently from Leeds United. The player, who has recovered from an ankle injury, is expected to begin training with the team next week.
Limited transfer activity at Manchester United
Manchester United, who secured Champions League qualification last season under Michael Carrick, are having a quieter transfer window this summer than in previous years. Eleven clubs, including newly promoted sides Ipswich Town and Coventry City, have spent more on transfers than Manchester United.
Following Casemiro's departure, the Manchester club signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for a combined transfer fee of £83 million to strengthen their midfield. The club are also seeking an alternative to Luke Shaw at left-back.
Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount will miss Manchester United's match against Hull City because of injuries. De Ligt, who underwent back surgery, has started individual training, while Mount is expected to return to training next week.
