Iran's Foreign Ministry accused the UK's new government of providing military bases and facilities for US military attacks on Iran. The ministry stated that this decision is a clear violation of the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law, and accused the UK of "complicity in the crime of aggression."
The ministry's statement read:
The new British administration's decision to provide military bases and facilities for the US's illegal military attacks on the Iranian nation clearly violates the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law. This act falls under the definition of aggression according to Article 3(f) of UN General Assembly Resolution 3314.
The statement noted that the UK is aware that the US attacks began and continue with the participation of the occupying and genocidal Israeli regime, and issued the following warning:
Any participation and cooperation in the preparation and execution of these illegal attacks will constitute complicity in the crime of aggression and war crimes.
The ministry noted that the UK, as both a sovereign state and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has sided with the aggressors instead of fulfilling its legal and moral obligations to condemn military aggression and war crimes. The statement said that this decision "further discredits the UK's claims of support for the rule of law, human rights, and international peace and security."
Iran also drew attention to the UK's historical record of intervention. The statement recalled the 1953 coup, support for Saddam Hussein during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, illegal sanctions related to the nuclear issue, and its role in the so-called snapback mechanism.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interests, and security against foreign attacks," and warned that any party participating in any way in a military attack on Iran will be responsible for the consequences and repercussions of its decision.
