Iran's Ports and Maritime Administration (PGSA) has announced new operational procedures for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement issued on Friday, it was announced that these rules were established in accordance with directives from relevant authorities following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum.
Application Process and Conditions
According to the statement, ships requesting transit passage in compliance with the announced requirements will be granted expedited transit permits. The PGSA's website (PGSA.Ir) and email address (Info@PGSA.Ir) have been designated as the sole official channels for applications.
Applicants are required to provide valid and accessible contact methods in their requests. To prevent delays at the entrance or exit of the Strait of Hormuz, transit requests must be submitted at least 48 hours before reaching the designated area of the strait and must contain all necessary information.
Fee Waiver and Security Emphasis
It was announced that no fees will be charged from ships during the 60-day period defined under the regulation. Costs related to security, safety, and environmental services, as well as relevant Iranian insurance coverage, will be borne by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Referring to the specific conditions and certain security risks along the transit route, the administration emphasized that to ensure safe and secure navigation and prevent maritime accidents, the route and declared transit schedule for each vessel must be coordinated before moving into the strait.
The statement added that failure to comply with these requirements would leave the responsibility with the shipowner.
