Despite US President Donald Trump's remarks about a deal being signed soon, Iran announced that no final decision has been made regarding the proposed agreement. The Tehran side emphasized that although the negotiations appear to be complete, no final conclusion has been reached.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bekayi stated that the country has "not reached a final conclusion" on the agreement. Bekayi noted that most of the text is completed, but talks have stalled due to the US side presenting new demands and changing its stance.
Trump, in his statement, gave the impression that the contacts had been approved by Iran's top leadership and mentioned that planned attacks had been canceled. The US President also said that the time and place for signing would be announced soon.
Trump's remarks resonated in global markets as well. While stock prices rose, oil prices fell, strengthening expectations that the conflict might be nearing an end.
The Iranian press approached Trump's statements cautiously. Tasnim news agency recalled that the US President had mentioned the deal being close 38 times in the last two months and wrote that such statements should be treated with caution until an official announcement comes from Tehran.
Later, Trump maintained his optimism in comments to journalists and responded "I understand the answer is yes" when asked whether Iranian leader Masoud Pezeshkian had approved the proposed plan.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced that a meeting took place between Trump and Netanyahu. According to the statement, Trump said that any agreement signed with Tehran would require the removal of Iran's enriched nuclear material and dismantling of its missile infrastructure.
The statements from the parties revealed the difference between the impression that the agreement had been announced and Iran's stance that the negotiation process is not yet closed. When and under what conditions the process will be finalized remains uncertain.
